    The lingering sound of 'Kolaveri'

    Why this Kolaveri di
"Why this Kolaveri di?..." the only single released from the Dhanush-Shruthi Hassan starrer '3' has "gone viral", as the netizens say.
Facts first. The song penned and performed by Dhanush was tuned by newcomer Anirudh, who will compose music for the whole album. 'Three', like the song, is all about Dhanush. And his family.
It's being produced by his sister and father, while his wife Aishwarya is making her debut as a director.
This means you have Rajnikanth's daughter directing Kamal Haasan's daughter. Well, can it get bigger? Perhaps it can, as "Why this Kolaveri di?..." has proved.
The song was first "leaked by some well-wisher" as Dhanush admitted to media. The filmmakers, noticing its popularity, went ahead, tweaked it and made an official release.
The release, held at an upmarket mall in Chennai on November 21, was a huge crowd puller.
The song instantly became the top Indian trend on twitter with a hash tag #kolaveri. It has so far had nearly 2 million views on a popular video sharing website and was shared nearly a million times on Facebook.
Reports say the song has reached number 3 slot on the global music lists and may even topple Lady Gaga to grab the next spot.
Kolaveri has become the top request on south Indian FM stations and became the first Tamil song to be premiered on MTV.
So why (is) this kolaveri a sensation? Kolaveri means "killer rage" and in the context of this song it just means, "Why are you so angry with me, girl?".
For a lay man, the beginning "Yo boys am sing song....soup song...flop song", Tamil-English mix and the lazy Koothu beat make it an instant catch.
According to Dhanush, "soup song" means a heartbreak song -- instant connect, isn't it? Soup to sabka banta hai boss!
As Dhanush's Tanglish gains a breezy momentum, the soup query perhaps becomes the listener's query. How can someone have a "killer rage" against this sweet boy-next door, who confesses he is "sing a song'' with immaculate originality?
